School Certificate: Edo Govt Goes Digital.

Edo state government has launched the Edocert 2.0 programme, a platform that degitalises the issuance of school certificates to students.

The state Commissioner for education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City, Wednesday, discribed the initiative as a milestone in educational sector.

Iyamu said the Edocert 2.0 scheme would be implemented in primary and secondary schools respectively, adding that it would thereafter be extended to tertiary institutions.

He explained that the students simply need to put his or her Identify card on the designated website and get the uploaded certificate printed. 

Iyamu noted, “the world has gone global and the era of students going to wait for manual certificate when they have written an exam will now be a thing of the past.

“So, this whole structure and technology is geared towards modernising and securing academic certificates even when there are cases of fire incidents.”

Continuing, the Commissioner said the scheme would also afford parents the opportunity to have access to their children academic records from the comfort of their homes 

According to him, “We have instances where some students… after collecting their result, they will go ahead to alter it. 

“But with this new technology, falsification of certificates are eliminated because uploaded certificate would be printed with a QR code. 

“So, once you put your phone on the printout, it’s verifiable. It takes you straight to the portal.

“And in addition to Edocert, the Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration is rebranding public schools in the State with the engagement of 500 teachers, schools renovation and provision of furnitures.”

Edo election : Tenebe alerts security agencies of ‘planned protest by PDP supporters’ in Abuja The All Progressives Congress (APC) has alerted security agencies about a planned protest by supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to “influence” proceedings at the Edo governorship election petition tribunal. The demonstration is reportedly scheduled for Tuesday in Abuja. A statement on Monday by Jarrett Tenebe, the APC chairman in Edo state, urged security operatives to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to prevent a potential disruption at the attorney-general’s office by the protesters. Tenebe asked men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Army to be on the watch over the situation. His words, “The disruption allegedly aims to influence the ongoing Edo State Governorship tribunal”, Tenebe said.
